The Bakken is a museum focused on the historical role of electricity and magnetism in the life sciences and medicine. Founded in 1975, it now resides in a former mansion overlooking lake Mde Maka Ska in south Minneapolis. The museum features a number of fun exhibits, including “Ben Franklin’s Electricity Party” and “Frankensteins Laboratory.” As guests at our wedding you will have access to the Museum Exhibits all day on the 8th.
Found on the shores of Lake Mde Maka Ska, the Bakken is tucked away in a small lake side neigborhood. Onsite parking is available.
The wedding ceremony and reception will be held upstairs in the Great Hall, with access to the medicinal gardens, and potentially some fun science demonstrations! Make sure you take some time to wander the gardens and enjoy a breathtaking view of the lake.
After the ceremony, join us to celebrate with a broad spread of beautiful & delicious foods, as well as wine and beer.
Admission to the Bakken is free for all our guests on the 8th. Please feel free to visit the museum during their open hours!
For those who are part of family & wedding party pictures, please plan on arriving by 4:00pm upstairs.
Gather in the West Winds room upstairs for non-alcoholic "apéritif". Sparkling water and light snacks will be available to tide you over as you get settled.
The ceremony will run less than 30 minutes and will blend secular and spiritual elements important to us. Officiated by Amelia Helm, blessing given by Bettina Kilburn (Ross' godmother).
Join us in enjoying a hearty buffet spread (vegetarian, non-dairy and gluten-free friendly — plus meat and cheese selections too!). We will also serve hosted wine, cider, and beer, as well as soft drinks, coffee, decaf and tea.
Weather permitting, the botanical gardens will be open for the evening and sparklers will be available!
Bring your favorite instruments ... we're hoping to enjoy some singalong time, if space and time allow.
Bubbly drinks (champagne and juice) will be served, along with Bundini cakes from Nothing But Bundts!
A docent from the Bakken will join us for some electricity demonstrations in the atrium!
We finish at the Bakken at 9, but may gather somewhere nearby to continue the fun.
